Recharge, Reset, Repeat: The Importance of Making Rest a Priority

Alright ladies, let's get real for a minute.

We all know that taking time to rest and recharge is important, but let's be honest - it's often easier said than done, especially for women like my readers (you) who are juggling careers, families, and other responsibilities.

As a coach, I'm constantly preaching the importance of rest to my clients, but I'll be the first to admit that sometimes (often) it falls to the bottom of my own priority list. Between my clients, corporate work, and my little munchkin, Charlotte, finding time to relax can feel like an impossible task.

But here's the deal: if we don't make rest a priority, we're not serving our clients, our family, our friends and we’re actually doing ourselves a disservice.

Chronic stress and burnout can wreak havoc on our bodies and minds, leading to a whole host of physical and mental health issues. When you're constantly on the go, your nervous system can get stuck in "fight or flight" mode, leading to chronic stress and burnout.

So, let's take a moment to forgive ourselves for being human and acknowledge that finding time to rest is a real challenge. But it's also an essential one. And the good news is that there are some simple solutions that can help.

Here are three tips to help you make time for rest and keep your nervous system regulated:

Schedule rest into your day.

It seems like a no-brainer when you read it, but how many of you have rest scheduled in your calendar and stick to it just like you would if you had a meeting with Oprah? Yeah, I thought so.

Just like you schedule meetings or appointments, make sure you're scheduling time for rest and relaxation. Whether it's a 10-minute meditation break or a leisurely walk around the block, find pockets of time throughout your day where you can slow down and recharge. And stick to it!

Delegate and prioritise.

Welcome to Control-Addicts Anonymous where we help you release control because babe you can’t do it all. I get it - you're a superwoman who has been hustling and getting shit done since 1991.

But the truth is, sometimes you need to delegate tasks or let go of certain responsibilities in order to make time for yourself. Sit down and prioritise what's truly important in your life, and let go of the rest.

Get creative with your downtime.

Maybe you can't take a full week off to go on a spa retreat (although that would be amazing). But that doesn't mean you can't find creative ways to relax and recharge. Maybe it's a quick yoga video on YouTube, a candlelit bubble bath after the kids go to bed, or even just a few minutes of journaling in the morning.

The bottom line is this - rest is crucial for your nervous system regulation, and it's up to you to make it a priority. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself, and you'll be better equipped to handle all the demands of your busy life.
